FRIN Host First Conference of Commonwealth forestry Association(CFA) Nigeria chapter
Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria played host to the first conference of the Commonwealth Forestry Association(CFA), Nigeria Chapter today, 10th October, 2016.
The theme of the conference is Forestry and Allied Natural Resources Disciplines In Nigerian Institutions: Inputs for Future Solutions to a dwindling Forest Estate in Nigeria, was graced by dignitaries and stake holders in the Forestry and Academic profession.
In his goodwill message, the ED FRIN Dr. A.O Adepoju congratulate Foresters and indeed the Commonwealth Forestry Association (Nigerian Chapter). He was quick to point out that the government is all out to reposition FRIN to an enviable height so that she can also rub shoulders with her counterparts from other parts of the world.

The ED FRIN said he believed that the fallout of the conference can serve as a blue print for the government and the Forest profession. He later declared the conference open and wished all present a fruitful deliberation.
Delivering his speech, the president of Commonwealth Forestry Association (CFA), NIigeria Chapter, Prof. B. O. Agbeja told participants that the Nigeria Forest Estate is geometrically reducing at an unprecedented and alarming rate; “our concerted efforts as foresters and allied natural resources specialist are called for to address the dangerous perilious situation of the Forest Estate in Nigeria.”

He pointed out that in Nigeria today, the Forestry sector is recognised as a second fiddle because we have since limited our scope rather than expanding the frontier of knowledge. According to him, “Nigeria is the only federated country in the world that has no Forest Estate of its own.” He therefore said he was optimistic that a lot will be learnt and networked.
Emeritus Professor S. Kolade Adeyoju posited that CFA, Forestry Association of Nigeria(FAN), Forest and Forest Product Society (FFPS), Association of Women in Forestry and Environment (AWIFE), and Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) should stress the profound concern for the implications of the dwindling Nigeria Forest Estate.

He is also of the opinion that a position document should be developed with participation of Federal and State Forestry authorities outlining the current perilous Forestry situation for the urgent attention of Federal, State, as well as all Local government authorities for presentation and debate at a national forestry forum.
The three day conference (10-12 October, 2016), other lined up activities are forest and forest product exhibition and educational tour of IITA Forest reserve.
