
Dalby sale 27 August: Strong feeder and restocker support drives prices

The supply of cattle at Dalby increased by 253 head to 6302 and included in the lineup were 1300 cows and 303 bulls. The fair panel of export buyers in attendance contained southern operators however not all the regular exporters were present. Feeder and restocker support was very strong across all classes and prices lifted accordingly.
The large numbers of light weight yearling steers to restockers allowed average prices to vary. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a market 34c to 40c/kg better. Yearling heifers returning to the paddock improved in price by 20c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed were in demand and lifted by 20c to 55c/kg. All the export classes lifted in price with bullocks 14c better and cows 7c to 14c and up to 25c/kg dearer in places.
Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 580c with a good sample averaging from 508c to 509ckg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 531c to average from 473 to 507c/kg. A single medium weight steer with show ring potential made to an isolated 788c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 518c with a large sample averaging 472c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 462c to average 416c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 432c to 440c with sales to 474c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 478c a large number averaging 445/kg.
Medium weight plain condition cows averaged 327c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores averaged 357c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 370c the best of the cows made to 416c to average 394c/kg some returning $2,852/head. Heavy weight bulls made to 408c/kg with the best returning $4,183/head.

An increased yarding in Dalby today with all restockers & feeder buyers in attendance although not all exporters were operating. Heifers increased in price in all categories with feeder heifers 15c to 20c/kg dearer. Cows were up 5c to 10c/kg whilst bullocks 10c to 15c dearer. Restocker steers held firm on last week. Whilst feeder steers were 20c/kg dearer.
